What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Yojana?
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a government scheme that aims to provide free electricity to households in India. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024 the scheme aims to provide a subsidy to install solar panels on their rooftops of households & to provide them 300 units of free electricity every month. The subsidy will cover up to 40 percentage of the cost of the solar panels. The objective of this scheme is to reduce the electricity costs of the house by installing rooftop solar panels and using solar energy. It is estimated that the scheme will save the government Rs. 75,000 crore per year in electricity costs.
Who are eligible to apply PM Surya Ghar Solar Subsidy?
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- The household must have a valid electricity connection.
- Must own a house with a roof that is suitable for installing solar panels.
- The household must not have availed of any other subsidy for solar panels.
- Belong to a poor or middle-income household.
